When UK power stations create the electricity used for recharging electric cars they are mainly burning fossil fuels (in the form of gas) for around 40%-50% of the electricity generated. Our Carbon Footprint Calculator works out a car's total travel CO2 output over a year.
Getting Started
To begin your carbon footprint calculation choose a car by selecting the manufacturer, model and derivative from the option boxes below.
We'll retrieve the recorded Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure ("WLTP') CO2 output figures for the car from the database.
Enter your annual mileage and click on the 'Calculate' button to see the results.
For electric cars we've calculated the CO2 output according to the impact of power stations burning fossil fuels to generate the electricity required for the recharge.

To compare the carbon footprint of petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric cars go to our Carbon Footprint Comparator.
We've also got a table of the CO2 impact of recharging an electric car - click on this link to see the best and worst performers.
