Getting Started

To view car running costs just:

1. Choose how long you expect to keep the car
2. Select your typical annual mileage
3. Choose the manufacturer, then model range and derivative you want to see

We'll then display data on the car's price, forecast depreciation costs, servicing and maintenance costs, plus fuel costs too.

To clear your vehicle selection just click on the 'Reset' button

Prices

We'll display the manufacturer's published:

• List Price
• Delivery Charges (if any)
• The initial tax disc ('vehicle excise duty') for the car
• The statutory first registration fee
• The total 'On-The-Road-Price' of the car
• The second year tax disc ('vehicle excise duty')
• The fuel type of the car

Depreciation

We'll display the forecast total depreciation cost of the car from the manufacturer's List Price over the period you expect to keep the car and your mileage including:

• List Price
• Forecast residual value or 'resale' price of the car
• Forecast depreciation cost from List Price over the term/total mileage
• The residual value's percentage of the List Price after your term and total mileage

Running Costs

We'll display the forecast costs of running the car over your selected term/total mileage.

These are often known as 'SMR' (or 'servicing, maintenance and repair') costs and include:

• The forecast servicing, maintenance and mechanical repair costs including and excluding VAT
• The forecast fuel costs over the term and mileage at the WLTP fuel consumption rate or recharge costs for electric cars

Changing the Costs

You can change some of the running costs of the car to reflect costs that you incur.

Once the forecast running costs have appeared for depreciation, servicing, maintenance and fuel, scroll down to the 'Your Running Costs' section (or click on the 'Your Running Costs' button).

You will see the 'Edit Details' box. This box allows you to change:

• The purchase price of the car.
• The fuel cost for the car.

This includes fuel costs for petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric cars, but only for the primary fuel cost.

For example, the cost of fuel for a hybrid vehicle can be changed for the price of petrol or diesel, but not for the cost of electricity.

Simply type the new amount you want to use into the appropriate 'Edit Details' box and the depreciation or fuel costs will be recalculated for you.

Please ensure you type numeric values into the boxes - non-numeric values won't be accepted.

For fuel costs, these will be tailored to the type of fuel for the car.

For electric cars you can change the electricity costs that you pay (in pence per kiloWatt Hour) and the range of the car.

For cars with an internal combustion engine (including hybrids) you can change the cost of fuel per litre that you pay and the fuel consumption (or miles per gallon - M.P.G.) of the car.
